Digital library is a collection of electronic-formed books. The issue
about the digital library is one of interesting subjects as the user
interface for information retrieval. However, the current interfaces
for digital library do not provide adequate facilities to improve the
readability of the individual users. In this thesis, we address a
personal interface for digital library system.
It is a normal practice of many users to compose small notes base on
their reading materials. These notes will include original
texts, personal writing/comments and so on. Based on these
notes, he/she will further continue the investigation in other
literatures. This is the manual senario used to form the personal
interface for the digital library. To develop the personal interface,
we introduce the concept ``personal notebook''. A collection of
personal notebooks is called ``personal data library''.
The personal interface is available between the user and the public
digital library. The main functions of the personal interface are
retrieval/browsing, load/restore and reorganization. Reorganization,
which is the function for arranging personal notebooks,
consists of functions such as editing, summarizing, collecting and
term-describing . Our prototype system for personal interface was
implemented on World-Wide-Web.
